What are Fencers?

Fencers are fighters with both physical and magical attack powers. They are adept at imbuing attacks with different elemental powers and incapacitating enemies. They are a lot like a melee Shaman, and work in much the same way.

They can do close range, elemental-attributed offensive attacks using a Sword. For a short period of time, the weapon used will be imbued with an elemental power. The power of these skills (Elemental Attacks) is strengthened mostly by Magic attack power, but physical attack attribute also has an effect on the final damage inflicted. Aside from being able to do solo skills, they also have advanced level AOE skills that imbue you and your party members with elemental attributes, whilst doing the enemies surrounding you damage.

Fencers can also use skills that incapacitate enemies for a long period of time. Effects include preventing enemies from moving, using magic, or attacking. As these effects have a long duration, they are useful against bosses and other players. Improving magical accuracy (dex) increases the chance of success when using these skills. These skills are great in PvP, but they have a reduced chance of working or decreased endurance time on players.

Fencers also have the skills that allow you to equip a Sword whilst on other job classes.

Fencers uses Sword and wear Light Armor. Swords are a single handed weapons with good magical and physical attack power. Light armor has good physical defense, but lacks other attributes. They make half decent pullers in parties because their Light Armor protects them from the damage inflicted upon them by monsters.

Advantages of being a Fencer

  • Great in PvP – Their debuff skills, partnered with the solo Elemental Attack skills, work great against other players. You can disable someones attacks and then wipe them out with a few well placed solo skills.
  • Low MP Costs and Cool Downs – Elemental attacks use a small amount of MP and the cool down on them is relatively short.
  • AOE – Fencers also have AOE skills that do fairly decent amounts of damage once they’re leveled a few times – and you get them starting at a fairly low level.
  • Works Well w/Magic Classes – Because they use Wisdom as a primary stat, they work well with other magic-based classes such as Wizard and Shaman.
  • Works Well w/Physical Classes – Because they use Dexterity as a primary stat, they work well with other physical classes such as Blademaster.

Disadvantages of being a Fencer

  • Elements Don't Overlap – Attempting to cast an AOE element buff over another does not cancel the first. Likewise, some elemental combinations do not stack.
  • Skill Points – Because there’s so many good skills that Fencers have, they tend to be really short on SP, especially if you want to be both AOE and PvP or have Equip Sword. Suggestion: Build yourself towards one or the other.
  • Buff Termination - If you unequip your weapon, any buffs you may have cast on yourself automatically turn off.

Builds

The three most important stats for Fencers are Wisdom, Dexterity and Power. Wisdom increases magical attack, MP and magic defense. Dexterity increases magical accuracy, accuracy, Physical Attack and critical hit rate. Power, as always, adds to Physical Attack.

  • 2 Wis/1 Dex: Good Magic Attack and MP Pool. Fair Physical Attack and Accuracy. Low evasion and cool downs.
  • 2 Wis/1 Agi: Good Magic Attack and MP Pool. Fair evasion and cool downs. Low accuracy.
  • 1 Wis/1 Dex/1 Agi: Fair Magic Attack, MP Pool, evasion, cool downs and accuracy. Soloist build.
  • Pure Wis: Best Magic Attack and MP Pool. Low Physical Attack, accuracy, evasion and cool downs.
  • Pure Dex: Best Physical Attack, accuracy and critical rate. Low Magic Attack, MP Pool, evasion and cool downs.
  • 2 Wis/1 Pow: Good Magic Attack and MP Pool. Fair Physical Attack. Low accuracy, evasion and cool downs.

AOE build

For an AOE type build, it's essential to have all of the Elemental Attacks. The first page are all solo skills, but evolve into advanced AOE skills in the mid-20s. It's also useful to have some sort of AOE sub equipped, such as Thief, Shaman, Blademaster, Wizard, etc.

PvP Build

Stun Strike, Offensive and Defensive Auras, and the solo Elemental Attacks are the best skills for PvP. Buff yourself with the Auras to boost your attack and def, then spam the target with Stun and the solo elemental attacks. If you're quick, you'll have stunned the enemy and they won't be able to attack you or use abilities.

Quests

Job Qualification

To become a Fencer, go the Fencers Career Advisor located in the Dojo in Eversun City (exact coords are: 156, 178). All you have to do is defeat him in battle to finish the quest. You have 20 minutes to kill him, but if you leave the Dojo during the trial you automatically fail and have to do it again.

Life Quests

Level 20 life quest:

Talk to the NPC Lucas in Swan Lake Basin, located at (614, 499). He asks you to help him find his daughter who was kidnapped. He tells you to go to the Mortuary in Eversun North to look for the culprits. Near the coordinates (295, 152) you will see a trio of NPCs:

Click on the middle NPC to start a boss fight, and defeat it within the time limit. Be careful and well prepared because this is a 3 vs 1 fight! Go back to Lucas in Swan Lake to finish the quest.

Level 30 Life quest:

Go back and talk to the NPC Lucas in Swan Lake Basin again. This time, he’ll tell you to look for the “Spirit Swordsman (Blademaster)” in Neptunes Temple. You’ll find him at the coordinates (280, 62). Fight him within the time limit – he will summon two level 22 Shaman monsters at a time to help him (he will continue to respawn them until he's dead).

After you defeat him, he’ll drop a “Wraith Sword”. Make sure you pick it up! After completing this, go back to Lucas in Swan Lake and report to him to finish the quest.

Level 40 Life quest:

Talk to the NPC Lucas again to get the invitation to start the quest. Go talk to O’Shea in Collington (482, 460) to trigger the movie. After this you have to fight the elemental Rat Bosses (it’s the same for all level 40 life quests) in the following order:

  • Giant Metal Rat - Copperhorn Mountain (270, 362)
  • Giant Wood Rat - Placid Plain (361, 398)
  • Giant Water Rat - Swan Lake Basin (318, 297)
  • Giant Fire Rat - Blakatoa (348, 572)
  • Giant Earth Rat - Grassgreen Square (232, 420)

Try taking a team with other people that also have to kill these rats - they're tougher than they look. After killing all the rats in the proper order, go back to O’Shea to finish the quest.
